Kidderminster & Stourport Circuit of the Methodist Church
Our circuit stretches over a large area of the beautiful countryside in the north of Worcestershire and is centred on the three towns of Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley. The River Severn cuts through the circuit and the ancient Wyre Forest is in our midst. The founder of Methodism, John Wesley, is known to have visited this area and so we can date the presence of Methodism here back to the days of his travels in the 18th century.
However, our circuit now represents a contemporary modern church even though some of our buildings display the beauty of Georgian architecture! Our 7 churches range from large town centre, to suburban and very rural. Nearly all of our churches have an element of community involvement and all have growing ecumenical relationships with nearby circuits. Three of our churches have even formalised such friendships through Local Ecumenical Partnerships.
At the centre of our decision making in the circuit is our circuit meeting made up of representatives from our churches and leadership and management in the circuit is offered by our Circuit Leadership Team which is made up from our circuit staff, circuit stewards, treasurer, secretary and lay chaplain. We have a team of local preachers who lead worship in our churches and the current circuit plan indicating who is preaching each Sunday in each church can be found elsewhere on the website.
Our churches are places that welcome people of all ages and active youth work goes on in some of them. To this end we are committed to the care and nurture of, and respectful pastoral ministry with, all children, young people and adults, as well as the safeguarding and protection of all children, young people and adults when they are vulnerable.
Visitors to our churches are promised a warm, friendly welcome and will find worship that is relevant. We have conducted a Circuit Review which has left our churches in good heart with goals set for the future as we seek to further God’s kingdom in our area. One of the issues we identified in our review was to improve communications across the circuit. This website is part of that and it exists for two reasons – one to provide information about what is going on in our churches and the other to share with the wider community something of our life.
If you come into the latter category do please explore our website and discover for yourself more about the life of this circuit, but better still come and meet us for yourself. North Worcestershire is a popular spot for a short holiday and visitors are always welcome.
